KOHAR Symphony Orchestra & Choir, colloquially known as KOHAR, hails from Gyumri, Armenia. Founded in 1997 by Armenian patron Harout Khatchadourian, along with his brothers Shahe and Nar, the institution presents a unique take on All Time Armenian Favorites through innovative arrangements and orchestrations. Honoring their late father Aram and their mother Kohar, KOHAR stands as a prominent musical and cultural entity.
In 2000, under the leadership of creative director and conductor Sebouh Abcarian, KOHAR evolved into a symphony orchestra complemented by the KOHAR Choir. With over 140 musicians, 14 solo singers, and a 14-member dance ensemble, the orchestra quickly gained popularity through outdoor performances and international concerts.
Renowned for producing 10 DVDs and CDs of All Time Armenian Favorites, KOHAR showcases bilingual visual and symphonic performances that captivate music enthusiasts. Notable features include subtitles with lyrics in Armenian and transliteration.
Acting as a guardian of Armenian heritage, KOHAR contributes significantly to preserving cultural legacy for generations to come. Led by Ayp Pen Kim, the ensemble proudly embraces its Armenian roots and represents the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia with pride.
